Naval Station Norfolk Child & Youth Programs

Welcome to the Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP)! Choosing child care and youth programming for your family is an important decision, which may be further complicated by military lifestyles. We know that military life comes with unique experiences and rewards of its own. While your children may face more than the usual challenges growing up, they also have the benefit of receiving high-quality early care and education from qualified professionals who can assist them in learning and in coping with these challenges. Navy CYP provides quality programs and services to nurture and support children as they navigate life in a military family, including care for your children during nontraditional work hours. The Navy is also dedicated to supporting the inclusion of children of all races, ethnicities, and abilities in CY programs. Navy policies, practices, and procedures reflect a commitment to inclusion and support of all children with and without disabilities or other special needs.

NAVSTA Norfolk - Teen Program

Teen Programs are recreational programs that provide quality “out-of-school” activities for pre-teens and teens. Teen Programs are offered to meet the needs of the command members. Transportation may be offered by the YP or local school system. Teen Programs are DoD certified, affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and offer 4-H programs.

All Teen Programs are designed to offer recreational-based experiential learning opportunities that enhance (rather than duplicate) the school day by integrating age and developmentally appropriate activities based on the knowledge of youth development, and the needs and interests of the pre-teens and teens enrolled in the program. Equally as important, Teen Programs provide important social/emotional growth opportunities that focus on character development, leadership skills, communication, and self-esteem.

The Naval Station Norfolk teen program builds character through everyday leadership and guidance in behavior and attitude. Young people of all backgrounds join together in wholesome recreation and companionship. Our professional staff provides positive adult mentors and role models to help teens succeed in school, stay healthy, learn important life skills, pursue interests in arts and sports and explore vocational choices. Most importantly our teen program shows youngsters that someone cares and wants them to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

Our teen program offers exceptional trips and activities that give our teens bigger outlooks on life. We engage in dynamic discussions centered around developing into strong, positive adults. The Norfolk Teen Program is the only teen program in the region that is Accredited through the Council of Accreditation.

We offer:

  • Trips to fun and educational places
  • Leadership clubs and seminars
  • Volunteer activities
  • New Student Orientations
